FILM’S BEST FRIEND

What is Filmhound

First and foremost, Filmhound is not a lab. We are obsessed with keeping our own film work clean, organized, and archived and want to share that with other film photographers.

Most labs do a great job developing and scanning your film—but when it comes to archiving, they just put your negatives into long continuous sleeves or paper envelopes and call it a day.

That’s where Filmhound comes in. We take your loose unorganized film and turn it into a clean, searchable archive you’ll actually be proud of. No more digging through dusty boxes. Your work deserves to be easy to find—whether it’s for a rescan, a client request, or someday, your kids flipping through your life’s work.

  • Getting started is as simple as sending your film or having it forwarded from your lab to our office. Protect your film from moisture with a ziplock bag and ensure your full name and email address are attached.

Service invoices are emailed upon receipt of your order.

  • The majority of our clients take advantage of membership as they are actively shooting and sending orders directly from their labs each month.

  • Once your order is received OR you’ve become a member, you may access My Archives to see your orders at a glance, manage your account preferences, and Bark to Earn.

  • Our Bark to Earn reward program is launching soon enabling our members to monetize their Instagram posts and reels mentioning @try.filmhound. Earnings are automatically applied to future invoices and in many cases, will cover the cost of membership and archival services.

"It’s honestly one of the best things I’ve done, using Filmhound to archive my film. I know I want to keep it and I know the importance of archiving, but the rolls just pile up and up and up. Sending them to you instead has made a huge difference in my workflow!" - Alexandra Friendly

"I kept thinking I’d get around to cutting and sleeving my negatives, but never did and on the rare occasion I sat down to archive a roll or two, I sucked at cutting nicely. So I figured it made sense for Mark at Northeast Photographic to forward them to Filmhound for free!" - Drew Chambers

“It is an invaluable option to have my negatives organized and saved and sent in a very practical manner at a later date. Makes life simpler for shooting film!” - Jeramy Ritchie

"I use Film Hound because, despite being capable, I rarely get around to properly archiving my film; Film Hound does." - Jason Mannings

Services

  • Each order undergoes a detailed process starting with numerical organization by twincheck. Using specialized, lint-free gloves and PEC-12 emulsion cleaner, we meticulously clean each negative to remove dust, debris, and oil. Your film is then cut by hand and sleeved in archival pages that protect them from environmental factors and chemical degradation.

  • Coming Soon

  • Your orders are safely stored and managed in our climate-controlled office. They remain under our vigilant care until an automatic return is triggered or a manual return order is placed.

  • Coming Soon

  • Once you have accumulated over 100 stored archival pages, your film is organized in an Archival Binder and automatically returned at no cost. Address verification will be emailed prior to all automatic returns. To disable automatic returns, please log in to your account.
